Evo Triangle

Open moorland in North Wales, fast sweepers and blind crests. The Evo Triangle is the opposite of an alpine pass, and the calls show it.

Where is the Evo Triangle?

In North Wales, on the moors between Pentrefoelas and Denbigh. The triangle is made of the A543, the A5 and the B4501. The route on this page is the A543 across the Denbigh Moors (Mynydd Hiraethog).

Why the Evo Triangle is famous

It takes its name from evo magazine, which used these roads for years for its road tests and photo shoots.

There are very few slow corners here. What matters are the crests and dips, where you can’t see the road ahead, and the fast corners that hide behind them.

Evo Triangle corners and crests

Over 20.1 km Turini calls 1 square corner and 67 corners graded 1 to 6, plus 8 crests and 12 dips. That is 91 calls in all, one every 221 metres on average. Grade 1 is the tightest, 6 is nearly straight (how to read pace notes).

Before you go

It is open moorland: sheep on the road, fog and strong wind are common, and the weather changes quickly. The roads are well known to the police too, so expect speed enforcement.

How to drive the Evo Triangle with Turini

Set the route before you leave and Turini saves its notes on the phone, so it works with the screen off and no signal. On the road it reads each call about 4.5 seconds before the corner, timed to your speed, and you never touch the phone. It also works through Android Auto. If pace notes are new to you, start in Simple mode (Easy, Medium, Hard) and switch to the 1–6 scale once it feels natural.

Always drive within the law, the conditions and what you can see. Turini tells you what the map says; the road is what counts.
